Derek Rowland lives in Colorado with his wife and three high-speed daughters. By day, he works as a civil engineer. By evening? He’s usually following his wife’s lead and racing between school pickups, ski slopes, swim meets, and somehow a cello recital — often in three different zip codes before dinner.

Growing up with two brothers, Derek never imagined he’d one day be talking about makeup, shopping for sparkle leggings, or navigating the emotional rollercoaster of lost hair brushes. But being a girl dad has taught him a lot, mostly how to listen, laugh, and keep snacks in every pocket.

The Full Speed Sisters series was inspired by real life: the fast-paced, tech-filled, big-dream chaos of raising three girls in today’s connected world. Derek writes with a passion for all things STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and he’s especially driven to show that math, science, and leadership are for every kid, no labels required.

In addition to writing and engineering, Derek considers himself an amateur artist and loves the challenge of turning big ideas into visuals, whether it’s a hand-drawn diagram or a whipped cream masterpiece in the kitchen.

When he’s not writing, moving rivers, building bridges, or trying to catch that water bottle rolling around in the back seat, Derek is usually helping one of his daughters launch a new idea. Some of them even involve whipped cream.
