FAQs
1. Are the sisters in the book based on real kids?
Yes! Ruby, Hadley, and Poppy are inspired by my three real-life daughters, each with her own energy, quirks, and unstoppable drive. Their personalities, adventures, and even their dog Hamish are all rooted in the beautiful chaos of our home.
2. Is this book part of a series?
It sure is. The Big Idea is the first in the Full Speed Sisters series. Each book stands alone but follows the same trio of sisters through fast-paced, heart-filled adventures. We’re already working on the next ones, and they just keep getting better.
3. What age group is the book for?
The sweet spot is ages 4 to 8, but plenty of older kids (and even parents) have told us they’re fans too. It’s great for early readers, read-aloud time, and anyone who’s ever tried to start a “business” in their front yard.
4. Is there a STEM or educational element?
Yes! While it’s definitely fun-first, every book in the series weaves in themes of problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, and STEM-friendly thinking and problem solving (like building, measuring, experimenting, etc). We just hide the learning inside the story.
5. Have you always wanted to write and publish a children’s book?
Not at all. I’ve always been a math and science guy, not a writer (and definitely not a speller). But over time, art, teaching, and parenting kind of snuck up on me. One minute I was calculating water flows, the next I was learning how to edit fonts and colors without cringing. Now here I am, writing picture books and loving it. Turns out building a good story uses a lot of the same muscles as building… and gives me something to do between races and recitals.
6. Why did you write this book?
It’s twofold. First, I’m passionate about supporting STEM education and showing kids that problem-solving, building, and engineering can be part of everyday life, and even fun. I want to write modern books that tackle modern kid challenges in creative, inspiring ways. If I can spark even one child’s interest in exploring how things work or thinking like a builder, I’ve succeeded.
Second, I wanted to capture the wild, brilliant energy of my own daughters. They're imaginative, relentless, and absolutely full-speed, and I hadn’t seen many picture books that reflected that kind of real-kid energy. So I wrote one.
7. Is the book available in hardcover, paperback, and digital?
Yep! You can find The Big Idea in hardcover, paperback, and eBook formats. Depending on your reading style. And yes, the hardcover has a spine with the title and everything (which I was overly excited about).
8. Will there be more books after this?
Absolutely. Book 2 is coming soon, followed by Backyard Olympics, our winter-themed adventure full of friendly competition, cousin cameos, and makeshift gold medals. The Full Speed Sisters aren’t slowing down.
9. Can I get a signed copy?
We’re working on that! Subscribe to the newsletter or drop us a note on the Contact Page to find out when signed copies, special bundles, or in-person events will be available.
10. Can teachers, librarians, or bookstores order your book?
Yes! We’re available through both Amazon and IngramSpark, which makes it easy for schools and stores to order. And if you want us to come talk about writing, creativity, or sister-powered storytelling, we’d love that too.
